U.K. and U.S. universities offer different programs depending on age and financial situation. The two most common entrance exams are the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) and ACT (Advanced Placement Test). SATs require students to take three sections: critical reading, math, and writing. SAT questions are often irrelevant to students’ schoolwork in high school. Still, your score will greatly impact the universities you apply to.

U.K. university:

The application process for a U.K. university is very different from the one used in the U.S. In the U.K. You may apply to multiple universities and rank them in preference. Tuition and living costs in the U.K. are less expensive than in the U.S. Undergraduate degrees are usually only three years long, as opposed to four years in the U.S. You can save nearly a year of living expenses by studying in the U.K. Generally, living expenses are lower than in the U.S., even outside of London. Food is also cheaper, and rent is more affordable. However, it would help if you considered the cost of living when choosing a university.

 

Some U.K. universities have the word “college” in their official name, which may cause some confusion among international students. This is the case with Imperial College London, which used to be affiliated with the University of London, but now operates as a standalone university. In addition, many U.K. colleges that offer undergraduate degrees do so on behalf of a university. They are known as Collegiate universities, and the recognized university is ultimately responsible for the curriculum and control of the quality of education.

King’s College London:

Established in 1829, King’s College London is the oldest university in the U.K. and one of only two British universities in the ‘Golden Triangle’ of research-intensive universities. Its academic program is nationally and internationally renowned, with the institution hosting six Medical Research Council Centres and twelve Nobel Prizes laureates among its alumni. Today, King’s has five campuses located throughout central London, with over 26,000 students enrolled.

 

King’s has a rich history, producing prominent graduates such as Nobel Prize winners, celebrities, politicians, and businesspeople. Other notable alumni include Nobel Peace Prize winners Desmond Tutu and John Keats. Many famous former students, including the poet John Keats and authors Thomas Hardy and Arthur C. Clarke. Its affiliation with Oxford and Cambridge University has helped it become a global hub for research and a leading research university. King’s College London also offers study abroad opportunities through partnerships with 150 institutions worldwide. For instance, students can participate in an interdisciplinary political science course at London’s Department of Economics and Business.

University of Pennsylvania:

The University of Pennsylvania is one of the best universities in the U.S. It consistently ranks in the top ten, with over 10,000 undergraduate students, an $800 million research budget, and a 6:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Its graduates include Nobel Laureates, Guggenheim Fellows, and many successful CEOs. Its top-rated programs attract international students from all over the world. International students must complete the same application process as U.S. students.
