Indian government runs some excellent schemes and one among them is Universal Travel Pass. It was launched by the state government of Maharashtra and enables its citizens to travel free on Indian Railways. It is also valid for use on State Transport buses and most National Roads passing through the state. The pass is for a single or double journey in a month on any of these modes subject to a maximum of 4 journeys in a month.
What is Universal Travel Pass?
The Maharashtra government is offering Universal Travel Pass (UTP) for senior citizens and the differently-abled.
The UTP can be availed by senior citizens and disabled persons for free travel on Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses in Maharashtra. The scheme is valid for one year.
How to Get Universal Travel Pass (UTP)?
1. Apply online or at any MSRTC bus stand or depots across the state From 17th March 2019 to 30th June 2019, between 11 am and 1 pm or between 3 pm and 4 pm, Mondays through Saturdays.
2. To apply online, visit msrtcindia and click on ‘Universal Travel Pass’ under the Services section on the left side of the homepage
3. To apply offline, get an application form from any MSRTC bus stand or depot across the state and submit it along with required documents at a counter with a valid photo identity proof like Aadhar card/E-Aadhaar card/Passport/Driving License, etc., along with Bank Challan of Rs 50/- in favor of “Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation Limited” payable at Mumbai.
Eligibility Criteria for Universal Travel Pass Scheme:
Universal Travel Pass (UTP) is a scheme by the Maharashtra Government to give free travel facilities to senior citizens. Under this scheme, senior citizens can avail of free travel on the local transport system in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This includes BEST buses and local trains.
The UTP was launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on March 10, 2019.
To avail of UTP, you must be 65 years old or above. If your age is between 60 and 64 years, then you will be eligible for a 50% discount on fares. The maximum discount under the scheme is Rs 300 per month for those who have retired from government jobs and Rs 100 per month for those who are not employed at present.
How much will it cost?
The UTP is completely free of cost as it has been introduced as a welfare measure by the government. You just need to register yourself online at utp-maharashtra.gov.in with your Aadhaar number, mobile number, email address and name of the service provider (if applicable). Once you have registered yourself, you will get an SMS alert with details about downloading the UTP app. That will be available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store soon after September 1st, 2019.
